Bagels & Beans and …. Goats Cheese

One of my favorite breakfast spots in Amsterdam is Bagels & Beans.  Their food is great and the ambiance is down right homey.  Back in July we visited B&B and found they had a bagel with a slab of goats cheese topped with walnuts and drizzled with honey.  I’d have to say that it was one of the pleasures of the trip.

If you haven’t visited B&B before check it out.  You just might like it.

My Favorite Ice Blended Coffee

20120619-105603.jpg

In Kuwait, ice blended coffee drinks are extremely popular and actually offer great relief from the relentless Summer heat. But some are inferior to others. I can’t stand watered down versions with chunks and shards of ice clogging up the straw. That’s why I prefer The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. Their drinks are blended perfectly and easily customized.

My favorite ice blended concoction (pictured above) is the Black Forest Mocha with extra maraschino cherries.

And don’t forget to ask for a loyalty card. Fill it up and they’ll give you a beverage of your choice on the house.

El Real in Houston should be on your list if you’re looking to score some kick ass cheese enchiladas. Don’t forget to order a Mexican Coke to wash it all down.

The Waffle Bus

20120531-074320.jpg

The Waffle Bus was one of my must-eat destinations in Houston last March. We stopped in on a Saturday for the chicken & waffle sandwich and an order of waffle fries. I was impressed to say the least and cannot wait to get back to that lip smacking chicken slathered with ancho spiked honey.

Hiya Green Tea

20120523-074749.jpg

Hiya green tea is a project I ran across on Kickstarter and supported financially. I love cold brewed tea and Hiya’s is rich in antioxidants. But really the thing I enjoy the most is the ease of brewing a green tea while on the run.

Are You a Foodie?

20120514-092025.jpg

I’m beginning to wonder what exactly is the definition of a foodie. Does eating at a restaurant or group of restaurants multiple times define one as a foodie? I wouldn’t think so. But who am I, really?

The above offer is a good one whether you consider yourself a foodie or not. I’m sure that the company’s target was the blogger clique and that’s okay. But it almost seems that the use of buzz words like ‘foodie’ is a bit over zealous for a promotion which basically amounts to frequent diner benefits.

If you’re interested in obtaining your very own exclusive (sarcasm implied) “Foodie” card, you can visit Carluccio’s which is located at The Avenues and Zafran which is located in Salmiya.

Organica Pasta & Pizza

20120510-094300.jpg

Was anybody else as surprised as I when trying Organica Pasta & Pizza for the first time? It was refreshing to see dishes that didn’t require boat loads of sauce (sweet or savory) to satisfy our increasingly numb taste buds. And their execution was spot on.

The favorite at the table had to be the lasagna with root vegetables and tomato foam. While presented in a deconstructed manner, the dish was extremely flavorful but yet still mild. Our pizza was topped with a robust beef sausage emitting a fennel aroma I’ve not smelled nor tasted during my years in Kuwait. The desserts consisting of a white chocolate cannelloni and a trio of chocolate concoctions were a perfect ending I the meal. From the strawberry consommé beneath the cannelloni to the chocolate mousse adorned with course sea salt, I admit I was quite impressed with the level of sophistication applied to the sweet offerings.

Pinkberry: Dive Into Fresh

20120128-080952.jpg

It would be nice if our friends at Al Shaya would follow suit and bring Pinkberry’s Blood Orange flavor to Kuwait but I seriously doubt it will happen.

If you’re Stateside, visit your area Pinkberry for their fresh pairing of Blood Orange frozen yogurt, blood orange pieces, coconut and pineapple.

Any Cloud is a Friend of Mine

20110921-091648.jpg

Yes, it’s just a cloud but it signals that cooler temps are definitely in our not so distant future. I’m a sucker for change in season, especially Fall & Winter. I’ve already got the salted caramel candle burning at the house and savoring Stonewall Kitchen’s Caramel Apple Butter every chance I get. Bring on Autumn. I’m ready!
